Nothing pleases Mainers more than having things as they should be. This refers usually to seasonally appropriate weather. Now that we have a foot and a half of snow on the ground people feel that all is right with the world.

A Land Rover Rally kept Melissa busy this weekend. For most of our B & B guests, a big snowstorm can lead to anxiety and cancellations. For the Land Rover crowd bad weather is a plus. They drive their vehicles around on unplowed logging roads, up mountains, on scavenger hunts. Some of the Land Rovers have winches on the front and when chains on the tires aren't enough, they winch their way up a hill. I'm thinking we need to have a Honda Civic Hatchback rally. We could have events like parallel parking, packing the hatch with gear and dogs, multitasking (eg, using a cell phone while eating fast food), seeing who can get AAA to come out fastest.

After a snowstorm on Friday, Saturday was clear and bright. I used snowshoes to pack down some paths and then skied on the packed paths that the snomobiles make on the lake. Sunday we went to Skowhegan and skied on the Kenebec behind Melissa's mom's house. We're expecting another storm tomorrow; looks like a work at home day. I've added a search function to the archive page, so you can find things easily in the back issues. It's one of those free things, but it's very well done. Here, try it out:
