JazzFest is coming. The Cubes are out. They've been printed out and hung here and there for perusal. I like the smaller stages and the tents. On First Friday I hope to see the Pine Leaf Boys, Bonerama, Zachary Richard, and there's a jazz funeral parade for Ed Bradley. I should check out Bryan Lee since he'll be here this summer. Two new bookings for the theater: Feufollet, a young cajun band and the Greencards who have the best selling bluegrass album in the country.
Our friends Pam and Bob who now live in Racine, Wisconsin, visited us briefly and we were joined for lunch by Lynn who shares an office with me at the MHIC. I apologize for the MHIC's website. A case of the cobbler's shoes. We're all too busy on projects that make money to redo our own site. Lateral career moves: Pam previously taught chemistry at Unity College and now is the director of a service learning agency at the University of Wisc. Lynn previously taught philosophy at Unity College and UMaine Augusta. She is now a programmer. The lateral move requires some time and a lot of learning as you gradually reshape your resume. It took me 3 years to transition from teaching to having a credible programmer resume.
Unity's Town Meeting was yesterday, the quickest and least controversial in several years. If democracy is not something you have but something you do, then we do it quite a bit here. And we've just noticed crocuses popping up.
The April Mix has two cuts from the 1 Giant Leap CD, a couple of Katrina songs (thanks to Mary Lou and Terri for those), some new Roches, and a Cadillac trilogy. The bad news is that I have enough songs about Cadillacs to do another trilogy next month.
Years ago when we first started spending summers on Unity Pond, I found this coke bottle bottom on the big island. With coke bottles, you might remember, the thrill was finding a far away place name on the bottom, (Yup, this is one of those stories that date me.) the more exotic the better. When I first spotted it, I thought wow a very far away place for a fraction of a second before correcting the thought to nearby place. I wonder how many thoughts I have that flash through from an earlier me before being corrected to the present me.
