Wednesday evening we did a community row in Belfast. The city has two rowing gigs; each holds 6 rowers and a cockswain (pronounced coxun) who is gives the orders and is the only one looking in the direction the boat is heading. Jim and Martha were the only experienced rowers. In fact they take these boats to other places and race other teams. So our job was to synchronize our strokes with Martha's. We learned a few commands and by following them were able to cruise up the river, execute turns, parallel park.

We are glad to get a break from shows for a while. From Monday's show here's a short clip of Mem Shannon singing one of my favorites, No Religion.

I went to the Bangor Folk Festival yesterday, saw a great bluegrass trio, Jeff Little Trio, that featured a piano; saw a a bit of Bernard Allison in the sweaty dance tent and realized that our sit down theater is not a good setting for blues. It needs to be rowdier than that. At least there has to be a lot of room down front for moving to the music. Sweat may be a key ingredient. After being in the sun on a hot muggy day, it was great to come home and jump in the lake.
