Loon count yesterday morning had 23 people in 17 boats counting 18 adult loons, 2 chicks and 3 nests. I was barely awake but out there in my zone assigned by Melissa the LoonMeister. The dreamy sky and water could have been rotated around the horizon that separated them and I wouldn't have known.
I saw two movies, uh films, at the film festival, but I'm hooked and will see more next year. First was C.R.A.Z.Y., about a Quebec family of 5 boys one of whom is gay. It reminded me of my Warren cousins who were six boys and the mother in the film was smart like my Aunt Faye Warren. We saw it at the Waterville Opera House which doesn't have comfortable theater seats, but is open and lit in a way that encourages visiting. The other film, Madeinusa, was at one of the Railroad Square theaters, a typical movie box whose layout and lighting encourage anonymity, as if we are going to share a dream in this room, but will be unable to talk about it afterwards. Maybe my impressions of the space were totally created by the film I was seeing. Madeinusa had promised me magical realism, but delivered dark voodoo. Ok, the fireworks in it were fun, spinning wheels of sparklers. Waterville has a little restaurant district downtown and they have created a sidewalk cafe area that contributes to the festival atmosphere.
