Sunday while kayaking up Carlton Stream, Melissa took these pictures of a loon on her nest and a couple of bullfrogs.
The stream wanders through a bog; as soon as you enter it from the lake you are in another world, a narrow water path through marshes teeming with life. Huge great blue herons and other water birds rose up as we paddled through. Yesterday on a bike ride around the lake, we saw this turtle laying her eggs right next to the road. It must have been Egg Day for turtles, because several other people saw similar activity. When we rode by this morning, the eggs had been broken into and eaten. It's a giant restaurant out there. There are a couple of horse farms on the lake loop and there are lots of shy horse babies.
Hooray for summer solstice time with all the light a brain can hold.
