Baton Rouge to New Orleans twice showed me the view toward the river at sunset.

I don't think I could have packed one more social event into this trip. Arriving on Thursday evening, dinner with the Bourgs at the usual spot, Zia's, but with special guest Elaine Lauriat from Maine who is working for Americorps down there. It was great to share a rack of beers with her grownup self. Friday, I went across the lake bought a set of glasses at the Abita Brew Pub, lunched with Anita, Malissa at Broken Egg. Then I zipped around the corner and serendipitously caught Jinx cominging out of her house, joined her and her niece and husband for lunch on Rips porch in the sunshine on the lakefront. Back to New Orleans to sit in Melanie Miranda's house with Marie and Barb, order a pizza and visit. Delicious to sit and visit with old friends and plan our next music festival adventure. Saturday was the wedding in Baton Rouge. The Matens and Bourgs on one side; the Broussards and Laurents on the other. More of their side went to communion and later at the reception their side danced more. I am so pleased that Todd is marrying into a family that dances. They have both just graduated from LSU. This might have been the last wedding in the family as neices Jeanne and Melanie Bourg have graciously agreed to have children without marrying so that the Bourg name can be carried on. Saturday night I watched the Saints game on a big-ass TV. I think the Saints had the flu that night. Sunday it was back to Baton Rouge to Ingrid's house to visit with my sisters and their spouses. Really precious time and pralines that came home with me. Family batteries recharged. The final event of the visit was watching Avatar in 3D. An interesting Ross Douthat column about it in the NYT the next morning. Finally I survived the DC airport where my flight to Portland was delayed by an hour allowing me to make the connection.

I'm writing and editing photos for this page on my Asus 10 inch netbook which has become way faster and better and with more battery life since I upgraded it to Windows 7 from XP. Counterintuitive, I know. Next week I'll upgrade my Linux 8.9 inch netbook to eee Ubuntu.
