It's hard to get pictures of a kitchen that's always busy. Melissa was putting up apple sauce this weekend, so you are seeing it in action. We're just about done on this makeover. The granite (Deer Isle, seamless, cut from a single piece) and the single big deep sink are great to work with. Big pots go in the sink and because it's deeper, water doesn't splash on you. The stove is a 5-burner job with continuous grating. The middle piece can be swapped out for a griddle. One burner is big for quick boiling, another is small for slow simmering. The carpenter for the cabinets and everything else is our friend Jim Bahoosh, a creative problem solver. He added slide out shelves to the island and redid the panels of the cabinet doors with beaded board. Melissa wanted red and she certainly got it. It's a fun kitchen to be in and just in time for major holiday cooking. Mary Leaming's Appliance Adoption Service found good homes for the old stove and microwave; Jim brought the old sink and faucet to the Habitat Restore store. Had to toss the old stove hood. I'm looking for a hood ornament for the new one.
