- Re-entry after New Orleans is not easy and 10 days of rain hasn't helped.
- After seeing the first two episodes of Treme, I ordered the DVD from Amazon.
What great fun spotting the players...Matt Perrine as a waiter,
Coco Robichaux sacrificing a chicken in the WWOZ studio and the DJ leaving the blood stain on the wall because it's good gris-gris. And all that music. Yum.
- Melissa acquired 3 cookbooks on the trip. The John Besh one because we happened to be in Covington when he was signing them. Melissa was in search of a doberge cake recipe and found it in both Kit Wohl's New Orleans Classic Desserts and The New Orleans Cookbook by Richard Collin and Rima Drell Reck, who were favorite teachers of mine at UNO. Many old cookbooks got fresh reprints after Katrina because so many were lost.
- I'm starting to shop for a new laptop that I will use to work at home or more importantly from somewhere warm for a few weeks next winter. Now that we've gone to virtualized desktops, I want something a bit larger than my current 13.3 screen. Those ultra light weight ones without dvd drives are cool, but you know ripping other people's CDs is an important activity.

- John McIntire rides his bike to Farmers Market sometimes. It's a classic. Note the mud guard on the front fender and the glass water bottle. John is the current president of the UBR Board; he's a well-known caller for contra dances. He and Nancy live off the grid. I pick my committee work by who is on the committee. I always pick John's committee.
- Major learning initiatives at work. HTML5 + CSS3 for the web and for Android apps; JBOSS vs GlassFish for cluster software.
- When recommending the Paul Harding's Tinkers, I tell them it's about how consciousness feels.
