Three weekends, three white wine sangrias and grilled veggie quesadillas, three excellent movies. Cynthia Erivo, the actress who plays Harriet Tubman, also sings the anthem "Stand Up." Parasite is a Korean film, kind of an upstairs vs downstairs, rich vs poor story with a not very subtle vengeance, the most discussion provoking of the three. Jo Jo Rabbit makes surrealism and Nazis work, and though I wouldn't call it a comedy, it was delightful.

They say the third time retiring is the one that sticks. We'll see. Two days after closing the sale of 93 Main, I was having a latte at BTC and my head lit up with some ideas and then I got a phone call telling me about an opportunity. How about we just buy and sell every old building in Unity, one at a time. We sold the building and the coffee shop to Tamika and Dan. They seem perfectly suited to keep it going and improving it. Looking forward to meeting friends for coffee there as a customer. Owning the coffee shop, imagining it, making it happen, learning the business end, getting to know a lot of new people -- it was a great life experience. I feel like I'm graduating from coffee shop university with an honorable discharge, maybe a couple of medals.

Yesterday into today is our first snow/ice event. Tomorrow is the day I am getting my snow tires put on the Prius Prime. The delay is because I wanted Nokian Hakkapeliittas non-studded because that's what Martha Garfield says are best. They don't cost more, they are just harder to find. Nokian is a Finnish company. I had planned to get studded tires, but my new plan is not to drive if the roads are shitty.

Here are some recent and current reads. In our excellent Kate-led book group, we read Anne Lister stuff which led up to read Frankenstien which led to Winterson's Frankissstein.

It's been a while, so to catch up on technology updates, Prius Prime(computer with wheels currently averaging 91 mpg) in March, Pixel 4XL (pure Android) in October. The face recognition unlock is a nice feature on the Pixel, saving two swipes a hundred times a day. It talks to the car which reads my messages aloud when I'm in motion. The google assistant commands will take a bit more work. Looking back at my upgrade note from 2008, I see my Blackberry Curve which was wicked cute. Now smart phones all look alike because they seem to be approaching a maximum size for a hand held. At a glance it's hard to tell an iPhone from a Samsung from a Pixel. Having set an optimum size, now they compete on resolution, refresh rate, camera, and integration with the connected world. My mixes now live on Spotify, although I still buy the 20 chosen cuts each month and store them locally. My music computer is at Archangel to see if they can make an external CD burner work with it. There are always these little lapses in compatibility as things move forward.
