May it bring us all new growth and pleasant surprises. My resolutions have to do with getting more exercise and keeping in touch with people better. What are yours?

| After a good snowstorm on Wednesday, the temperature took that end of the year dive and has been below zero at night. Now the lake will be like a superhighway with snowmobiles and skiers.
The lake's freezing process differs a bit each year. This year a fierce wind was blowing as the temperature plummeted, and as ice formed it was tossed up onto an ice levee at the shore. Two inches of ice is safe for one person to walk on, three inches for a group; eight inches will hold a light truck. I'm still working on my Christmas cards, which will now be called "winter cards." The pre-Christmas time was way too busy. Melissa's catering sideline kept her fixin & doin. Several small groups had their Christmas dinner parties at the Heron. They seemed to like having a private dining room and then exchanging gifts in the parlor. |

| A week or so ago, I saw a small note on the desk at the Heron. It said, "Kellie, Edward Wilson, May 14." This I put together as meaning that E.O. Wilson the Harvard sociobiologist was going to be the commencement speaker at Unity College's graduation. He's a great science writer who grew up in Pensacola. Hence I'm reading In Search of Nature. Serendipitous reading direction. | ||
