A morning at the Farmer's Market on one of the rare days this spring when the sun was actually shining. Arizona, we have your rain; please come and get it. Terry Allan, aka the Vegetable Princess, wore one of her finest marketing outfits. It's the Reny's bag that adds the finishing touch to her ensemble. Allison Wallace was digitally photographing organic vegetables. Yes, we live in a world where digital and organic can live together happily in the same sentence. Allison organized a symposium this week that brought farmers and writers together. Three of the writers, Jane Brox, Carolyn Chute, and Bennett Hutchinson, stayed in our place and Melissa catered the lunches. I thought some of the presentations titles ("Bacterial Requiem", "Advocating Sentience", "Body Yiddish") begged to be made fun of, but I told Allison I'd be nice. I've been advocating sentience for years. Really.
The dock is in, the screen door is on, and we're expecting the first wave of summer visitors this week. Dave Cash comes up on Thursday. Ginny and John Payne from Slidell over the 4th. It's light from 4 am to 9 pm now.
