If October started in September this year, it certainly appears that late November started in mid-October. On the weekend that the time changed, we got about 6 inches of snow. Heavy enough to break a big bough off the apple tree at the lake that had just produced its first bumper crop. As you can see we hadn't taken the chairs off the deck yet. The day before it snowed we were raking leaves. Discombobulating it is. I'm not sure what time or what season it is. And on the same weekend, hunting season started. Trees can unexpectedly have dead deer hanging in them. Then there is wearing orange...
Throw in a close election with the possibility of someone not nearly smart enough becoming president and you have the full weirdness of November.

Network television is developing a Texas version of "Survivor", the popular
TV show.
Contestants must travel from Amarillo through Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston,
San Antonio and back to Amarillo, through San Marcos and Lubbock, driving a
Volvo with a bumper sticker that reads: "I'm for Gore, I'm gay, and I'm here
to take your guns".
The first to complete -- or simply survive -- the round trip is the winner.

Melissa and I spent yesterday prepping for a Harvest Supper last night at the Community Center (where the Farmers Market is on Saturdays for those of you who have been here). The kitchen equipment had recently been installed and the dishes and pots arrived at 11 am yesterday. So I spent the afternoon with other volunteers unpacking things and cycling the dishwasher. Melissa did the cooking. When she steps out of the kitchen, sometimes we assistants don't know how to do something without her telling us. I'm thinking of getting some woven wrist thingys with WWMD printed on them. Other volunteers in the kitchen included our state senator Susan Longley who is up for re-election on Tuesday. You know it's a big enough kitchen when you can put a legislator with a film crew in there while work continues.
We've had a week off from innkeeping; the Heron's been empty while we had the well pump replaced. The new pump is inside the well under the driveway instead of in the basement where you could hear it crank up. We went out to breakfast (a rare treat) this morning to my new favorite restaurant, Chase's Daily in Belfast and then to Reny's. A girl never has enough fleece socks.
