A woman is in the lobby of an elementary school. A huge black bear (too tall for a black bear really, probably a grizzly in a black bear suit) appears at the front door and menaces a traditional woman teacher standing outside. The woman in the lobby grabs her umbrella and steps outside to chase the bear away, but the bear is furious and chases her down the halls of the school where she repeatedly tries doors, looking for one that will open and then lock from the inside. Although the bear is just behind her, she manages to get on the PA system and tell the children there is a bear in the school and to stay in their rooms with the doors locked. After more frantic chasing, she manages to get to the PA system again and tells the children to throw all their lunch bags out into the hall. The situation is defused as the bear leisurely snacks on all the goodies in the lunch bag littered hall.
Weeks later, the woman is in the airport preparing to leave for a vacation, but bothered by the memory of the bear experience. What does it mean to be chased by a bear? In the airport there is a special desk where messages can be left for others. The woman goes to the desk, waits in line for her turn, then tells the clerk about the bear dream, and says "There, now it's yours to worry about," and goes off on vacation.
So the question is: should the story be told from the viewpoint of the woman or the bear, the messenger clerk or the lunchbags?

After a big snow the garden seems to have sunk a foot into the ground. During melty times, Wing is afraid to go outside because of the snow falling in big heaves off the roof.
The JazzFest schedule came out at the end of January. Zap Mama (their version of Iko-Iko is the current download), Nickel Creek, Randy Newman are a few of the surprises. We'll be there April 21 to May 1. If the beach gathering is the second weekend, I'd like to go the the festival in Lafayette on Saturday. Another festival in our future is Newport Folk Festival in the first week of August. We have friends, the Szeligas, who live near there.
I have two shows scheduled at UCPA so far this year with several others still in the works. Randy Sabien, a jazz violinist, and Vishten, a Acadian band. In a bit of miscalcualtion about JazzFest dates, I won't even be here for the Vishten show. Acadian music is Celtic style but sung in French. It all got blended together up there in the Maritimes.
Promoting shows is about shopping. Finding the right product at the right price. But it has its pleasures. I like the moment when the band arrives at the theater, looks around at the room, the stage, the lobby and realize they're in a really nice place. Promoting is about networking too. In a neat bit of networking with WERU (WWOZ North), we'll get Ferron here in July. And networking with businesses to serve as ticket outlets. Yesterday I went to Pittsfield and cruised down Main Street looking for a candidate. I picked Clipper's, the thousandth incarnation of a restaurant in that space, open 6 am to 8 pm most days, and having some window space for posters. I visit the outlets about twice a month, dropping off tickets and picking up money.
