Gypsy Caravan was the first in the Free Film Series at the theater. The tour manager in the film, George Cruze, brought the group Lura through here two years ago. I thought he had a lot on his hands with the Portugese speaking Cape Verdeans, but taking 30 gypsies on a world tour sure tops that. When winter has drained all the color from the world, lively music and vivid colors on the screen really make an impression.

Speaking of light and color, it's approaching Mardi Gras in some places, and the N.O. Jazzfest schedule usually comes out thereabouts; we bought flights before that announcement creates a shortage.

As the NFL playoffs wind down, the political playoffs take up the slack. And we have so many winners on our side. The Patriots are awesome; it really is a psychological boost to have a winning team. The choice between Obama and Hillary is an embarrassment of riches. I'd be happy with either. Unity's democratic party caucus is Feb 10. It's one of those where you stand in a candidate's area and try to talk others into joining your group.
