Early this spring I found seven blue insulators underpriced at a yard sale and I took it as a sign that I should build the Central Maine clothesline of my dreams. I added 3 from my insulator collection and made 5 lines. Things you use every day should be fun to look at.
Here's the June mix. "Down in the Hole," a Tom Waits tune, is the theme music to The Wire, season three of which we're watching. Horrific language; great character development. A good crossover song: Louisiana's Amanda Shaw singing Maine songwriter Dave Mallet's famous garden song. Miss Tess will perform here Aug. 30 in a benefit for Unity Barn Raisers.
I guess I can stop obsessively reading political blogs now that the primary has finally ended. Wasn't that an amazing ride? I think Obama is on his way to a big time win in the general election. Couldn't be happier about the way this is turning out. My guess is that he'll pick Jim Webb for Veep. An article I read in the New Republic today suggests that Webb's Applachian brawler identity is as much a chosen cultural home as Obama's black cultural identity.
Signs of the times in Unity, a big Hillary sign for sale in Babe Tozier's front yard and at Unity Pond Pottery a single line at the top of the sign that says Obama. I'll have to stop by and do a fist pound with Espo the potter.
