So much we can do in New Orleans before the JazzFest crowds arrive. We caught the last day of French Quarter Fest on Sunday. We wormed our way into the Monteleone to hear jazz cellist Helen Gillet's Wazozo Zorchestra. I hope to hear her again at Zeitgeist on April 26. There was music in the middle of every block of Royal Street and these small performances were better than the big stages on the river front.
Yesterday was all about the Dew Drop, a small venue that was resurrected when our pal Jinx donated the old building to the town. For the 13th year a group of Brittish jazz fans gathered there to hear awesome clarinetist Dr. Michael White. Gregg Stafford on trumpet was great and Don Vappie played bass. The venue itself was the charmer. Big open windows as a light rain fell. That's our friend Marie spotting us. |

It is fabulous to hang with our friends. Picked up Melanie and had lunch at the Rum House on Magazine. Smothered greens and coconut mango rice. Cheryl joined us there. Then across the causeway to Mandeville with a stop at Peggy's house. It was great to see Jinx and Peggy and Marie in their element at the Dew Drop. We plan to stay on the north shore next weekend and bike ride on the Trace.
In the middle of the FQ Fest crowds on the river front, this little yoga class was happening. |
