We have joined our friend Melanie from New Orleans at Jinx's house in the forest in Brevard, NC for a week. Saturday was Asheville. We have become such country mice that walking around in a city is a major treat for me. All that pulsing life of so many people's goings and doings interweaving, not to mention great coffee everywhere.
Asheville has some terrific creative energy, a lot of it new and funky like the recycled machine parts used for the walls, tables and chairs of the Wedge in the new arts district. In a perfect small music venue called the Altamont, we heard an acoustic set by the two guys who are Band of Heathens. Thrilling to hear Gris Gris Satchel live. Malaprop book store was another highlight.

Of course, out first thing on Saturday morning was the Brevard farmer's market where I saw these quail eggs. Nobody shops a farmer's market better than Melissa.
Jinx's house in the forest is wonderfully quiet. At night there is just the sound of the waterfall a couple hundred feet away and the cicadas or frogs. I'm sleeping in a very comfortable house, but my mind thinks I'm in a tent in the woods.
