We are having skater's weather. Our snow cover has been mostly washed away by some warm rainy days, but the ponds are like glass now that we are back in very cold weather. Too bad I don't skate. The roads are clear and good for travel so we are more likely to go out and about. 18 Below for dinner and RR Square for Life of Pi which spends a lot of time on the rolling seas. A dramamine might be in order before seeing it.

Slates brunch for Peter's birthday, and a stop in Benton on the way back to get these photos which don't really capture the beauty of the frozen bog. Maybe I like this scene because I know swamp and I know frozen, but not usually together. Stephen King idea: cold-resistant albino aligators that live in Maine's icy bogs and attack stranded motorists. Another stop on the same road to walk into the stream at SRLT's Moulton Mill property. Just as with Connor Mill on Sandy Stream, the remains of the mill are just above where ledge creates rapids.

Reading an excellent book by Taylor Clark called Nerve: Poise Under Pressure, Serenity Under Stress, and the Brave New Science of Fear and Cool, about the neuroscience of fear: "...her prefrontal cortex taught itself to soothe the amygdala’s reaction to the crowd." I need to finish the book before I do the scary thing I'm about to do.
