Older than it looks.. When Rob had finished cutting down the tree, he cut a "cookie" and used a twig to count the rings. Then he asked me if we had built the house about 22 years ago. The tree was older than it looked, about 90 years old, but most of its life was in the shade of other trees and it might have been an offshoot of another tree. That's the area of tight-packed rings in the middle. Then about 22 years ago, some trees were cleared out to make room for the house. The remaining trees were thinned. The tree adjusted to the improved conditions with cautious optimism for a few years and then had about 15 years of flourishing growth. Until this last Friday when it got cut down to give more direct sun to the roof which will be getting solar panels soon. No bucket trucks for these guys, just ropes and climbing.
