I spent Saturday at a Congress of Lake Associations(COLA) conference whose theme was Sentinels of Change, or how climate change is going to impact Maine lakes. COLA has smartly decided to change their name ( "Congress" is not a confidence-inspiring word ) and change from being an organization of lake associations to an organization of people: Maine Lakes Society. This is going to be great for this somewhat stodgy group. With a $25 per person membership, funding will get a boost, plus they have a new grant-writing vice president.

Today (June 26) is one for the history books, a marker in the march for equality. Some new heroes: little old ladies who stand their ground: Edith Windsor and her attorney Roberta Kaplan, people who are beautiful and articulate despite not having slept for days: Rachel Maddow and Cecile Richards, these shoes are made for talking: Wendy Davis and the purpling of Texas. As icing on the cake, the Maine legislature overrode the governor's budget veto as people in his own party reprimanded him for his boorishness. It was a fabulous day on social media.

Now we really do need to get serious about some wedding planning. Summer is already full of plans. The MIFF schedule is out. Lots of Altman. Look forward to seeing Nashville again before heading off to the Green River Festival. Three days this week we have been up early to pick strawberries at Raven's in Freedom. We may need to get another freezer.
