bunting and bots
In June we will start two reading groups at the library. For the Big Picture group Kari Hulva will lead a discussion of Piketty's surprisingly readable "Brief History of Equality." I'm halfway through that and learning about how slavery and colonialism shaped the global economy. I paused midway to read a scifi novel narrated by a murderbot, a robot who figures out how to hack his governor module, becomes free, and learns to relate to humans and other AIs. I like the way it contrasted the ruthless, authoritarian Corporate Rim with the egalitarian, peaceful, academic researchers.
Another horrific school shooting in Uvalde, Texas had me feeling some murderbot outrage at the politicians owned by the gun sales lobby that will fight any attempt to legislate some reasonable gun laws.
The First Wednesday reading group will share passages from whatever they are reading. I have no idea who will show up for these groups. June is our launch month for lots of activities.
