marching down to scenario

July 22 2024

A few days ago I started a post about scenarios following either a Biden or Trump win in November. It was not a cheerful post. But the element of surprise continues to be my favorite entry in the periodic table. Yesterday Biden stepped away and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee. Following that was some amazing time on social media and cable news, as endorsements and donations came flooding in. This morning, many women, including me, post that they are feeling hopeful and energized for the first time in a while. The timing of the change, after the RNC spent its convention railing against an opponent they will not be facing, and before the deadline for states to finalize their ballots, is pretty crafty. It will be interesting to see how Biden uses the rest of his term since presidents are now apparently immune from legal accountability. Let's see some executive orders.

You can transcend your programming! And you can work in groups of humans and robots with diverse personalities and skill sets to make a better world. That seems to be the message of the six volume Rusted Wasteland Series that I've just finished. And as you transcend your programming, you change, becoming more empathetic and able to bond with others and choose your purpose in the world. It's a good read for children; now I'm ready for something much edgier and adultier.

Dream elements: Abita, a mystery UNO campus nearby, at a play sitting next to Pastor Jen, my cellphone turning to dust in my hand. Origins: reading The Anxious Generation about how smart phone have made children anxious and depressed; Pastor Jen because the last time national politics turned this bad she held office hours at the pizza place and I had a tearful conversation with her. Abita Springs is a place it's really hard to get lost in, yet there I was. Everyone I know is experiencing anxiety about the Supreme Court's immunity ruling and Biden's bad debate night. I hope the media frenzy backs off and they start questioning the sanity of the other candidate and paying attention to Project 2025. I'm hanging with Biden & Harris. This election is about policy and saving democracy; the alternative is the Handmaid's Tale on an overheating planet.

On a bit of a roll this week with an unexpected grant check from STK Foundation (more bookcases), an approval by the town for funds to refurbish Triplet Park, and our community solar project starting to look more real. Emerson (6th grader) saw the proposal on the table in the meeting room and read it. I explained it to him in terms of his parents' business and their energy bill. He got the math. He is also one book ahead of me in the six book Rusted Wasteland Series. NannyBots to the rescue. Maybe a joint review when we finish the series.
