Breakfast at the Heron is ready to go. Fresh squeezed on one side board, fresh dripped on the other. Fruit salad served first. If this is Saturday, it'll be blueberry pancakes; Sunday is pain perdu. Pain per who? Bacon or maple flavored sausage. The house granola is maple walnut with dates and apricots. The house coffee is Community Hotel Blend. Biscuits, rubarb muffins, blueberry muffins, homemade bread...
And at night, a plate of just-baked cookies appears on the table with a pot of tea and some very sweet bone china cups.
We're adding gardens like crazy at the Heron. Here's the one out front. We've started herb gardens and raised beds for veggies in the back.
We are in the process of getting bids to have the exterior painted, but the estimates seem huge. We may be doing some of it ourselves. What do you think about pale yellow with white trim and dark green shutters?
Quick, everybody switch jobs! The latest person to get a new life is Allison in Portland. Tired of being a HUD attorney, she quit and opened a restaurant in Brunswick (just north of Portland) called the Starfish Grill. Bodacious good food.

And that's the news from Lake Winnecook.
