More #49s are a click away. Just after I put those photos on the page, I went upstairs to catch the news. The news wasn't on. Christine was on.

Ice Out. Remember the April 1 photos with the ice chunks? Well, the ice went out on April 4 just a few days later (sorry, no winners). The following Saturday I was sitting here at my desk when the sky cleared to hyper blue and the water was back to streaming media. I grabbed the kayak off the hooks in the basement, dragged it down to the water and hopped in. Glorious. The water was very high and usually low lying brooks and inlets are navigable. It was a great first ride even if I did fall halfway in getting back in over the rocks. How cold was the water? The shock cleanly erased every thought from my head and replaced them with a single high volume intensely urgent nonThought somewhere between wow and ouch.

Yesterday was the first bike ride around the lake. Lisa Kimball often pops in on Saturday with her bike on top her car. Four deer crossed the road in front of us on the Burnham side, and later the bald eagle sailed over the house. The loons were back the minute the ice was out.

We're busybusy this last week before vacation. We'll be in New Orleans or thereabouts from April 26 to May 9. Any other exmatriates returning for the Fest?
