The server room at work is a pretty scary place and is soon to relocate to a data center in Portland. It's part of a major infrastructure upgrade. I've always thought the cable cascades were beautiful.
On Turkey Day in Skowhegan we did the traditional orange-clad walk in the fields and visited my favorite rusty thing. Melissa and I have taken on the Road Association duties. The dozen or so houses on our fire road pay dues into a fund and we dish it out for plowing, sanding, etc. I am introducing the concepts of spreadsheet and bank account. I would rather not have a couple thousand dollars tucked somewhere in the house. I went to the real bank, Bangor Savings, to do the bank account, but they wanted the road association to become a legal thing, tax ids and all that. That would require a big meeting of all the folks on the road. I think not. They don't get along with each other. So I went to the credit union in town whose employees all seem to be interns from a high school chapter of Future Business Leaders of America. No problem for them to give us a checking account that says Fire Road 16 Association. We will probably be the road association captains for a couple of years, and being Democrats, at the end of our term we will leave a surplus. Then maybe the republican Russells at the end of the road will take over, start an elective war against Fire Road 17, and throw us all into debt. |
