Counting water lilies on loon count day.

Full tilt summer. Melissa organized her troops for loon count yesterday. I wandered over between the islands and spent some time with the water lilies. The troops met at Crosstrax for breakfast afterward. Then Jean the Happiness Engineer spent some time with people and their web projects at the community center.

WordPress calls their support people happiness engineers and it's a title I'm borrowing. Sandy Olson is an artist who has made a lovely website for Sebasticook Land Trust. She made it at wordpress.org. Now I need to move it to a wordpress-enabled host. I have a Host Gator account because I've given myself a year to learn Drupal and that's where my test site is. I am not artistic but I understand all the domain registering, hosting, nameserver stuff to get sites up. Increasingly websites are all about content management systems. Wordpress, Drupla, Joomla are all CMSs. CMS let's you design the site but let's other people maintain it and constantly keep its content fresh. Drupal is the biggest and baddest of the CMS, with a steep learning curve. That's why I've given myself a year. In the meantime I will probably write a very simple CMS in php for unitymaine.org so that someone else can maintain it. I am looking to get out from under.

Last night I went with Larry and Vicki to an Atlantic Music Festival concert at Colby's Lorimer Chapel. We sat in the first row and on the same level as the orchestra. It was like being inside the music. The soloist Eunice Keem played the hell out of a Mendelssohn violin concerto. Quite wonderful. The series is free. For the next 10 days it's all about the film festival. Malcolm McDowell is being honored. We'll see at least 5 films including Tank Girl at the Skowhegan Drive-In.
