The apples and I are not quite ready for the transformation into white world. They look like unwilling ornaments, all flocked up. Just Wednesday I was mowing the yard. On the ride to work I was enjoying the illusion that the hay bales on the green fields move in a contra dance counter clockwise as I pass by. I was enjoying the huge spread of fall gold to brown on the hills of what I think of as the Kennebeck River Gap, the new bridge in Augusta.

The power is out and I suspect that is widespread. I am waiting a while to put the generator on because the quiet is too good to be shattered just yet. I am still negotiating with the electrician about putting in a 7kw standby generator and I'm wishing I'd speeded that up a bit. I'm glad we had a Saturday to get ready. We cleared the decks, put the bikes away, and planted garlic. This snow is an anomaly to be sure. It will melt away and get replaced by better quality snow. Yes, we'll get an upgrade in December.

Melissa cooked for a week to feed about 70 people at a fundraiser/annual meeting/concert for the Sebasticook Regional Land Trust, formerly Friends of Unity Wetlands. It was the first of the festive fall meals, the first of the comfort food of winter. Everything was locally sourced. When we contribute to an organization, we try to invest in an event and grow our money. She contributed the meal and people paid $20 for the meal/concert (Tremolina) so she just about quadrupled her money. I do a similar thing with benefit concerts for Unity Barn Raisers

With winter a comin in, I got my work-at-home space ready, raising the desk to standing height. One side of the room is about work and the other side is about workout. The TV and slideshows and music on the work side make the workout side bearable. We couldn't get through winter without the gym stuff.
