![]() With a fresh snowfall on the ground, it was a bright ride to Moody Chapel on the Goodwill-Hinckley campus for Shirley's memorial service. A handsome stone building if not too well heated. Since we were seated facing the stained glass windows, I was pleased that the motif was flowers and symbols and not the bleeding internal organs usually depicted in catholic churches. Shirley had left instructions that the service be ecumenical and that Sister Claudette would give the eulogy. Sister, complete with props, chatted for about 40 minutes. It ended with all the verses to Amazing Grace (they don't write'em like that anymore) then into cars to find the reception hall on another part of the huge campus. ![]() ![]() |
Melissa inherited her mother's collection of bundt cake pans and made this sunflower cake for the reception. Monica helped cater and Jennifer helped with set up and clean up and other good friends came to stand with us.
We had our Democratic Party caucus this afternoon; it's mostly focused on getting our local reps elected. I don't know how things will evolve in the presidential election, but I want to remember this point in the Republican primary as summarized by Maureen Dowd. Their culture war on women is pretty scary, but in the same news frame as their frothing there are articles about Washington, Maryland and New Jersey legislatures passing gay marriage bills. "The future is already here. It's just not very evenly distributed." And remember, Santorum's line on all the graphs is brown. |
