Winter is not usually this boring. We are averaging two non-travel days a week, mostly having to do with icy roads and never having to do with big snow storms. Snow is playable; ice is not. I'd rather be putting on snow shoes, but I'm putting on YakTrax. We cannot escape to the south just now because Melissa's mom is down by the river buckling up her traveling shoes. The available escapes are music, films, books and gaming. Can't wait to see Beasts of the Southern Wild for which there is not yet even a trailer. Magical Realism, come and take me away.
The theater website is supposed to pass to the college on Wednesday. Their page shows the limitations of a bad CMS (content management system) or just bad design. I am really feeling the end of an era here as I craft a letter to the theater email list explaining the changeover. What shall I tell them? It was a great 10 years; nothing lasts forever. I have no idea what direction the college will take with the theater. Running a music venue is not really part of their mission. Small colleges are all about themselves; they may not see the need of the community for this little gem of a theater. Looking at the shows I booked there, here are some of the great ones: Eliza Gilkyson, Mary Gauthier, Eric Lindell, Lura, Ruthie Foster, Sonos, Fishtank Ensemble, Hot Club of Cowtown, Girlyman, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Red Molly, the Greencards, the Toughcats, Kris Delmhorst, Old School Freight Train, Emma's Revolution, Ferron, The Red Stick Ramblers, Lucy Kaplansky, the Alexis P. Suter Band. And that's just my bookings. John booked greats like Derek Trucks, Odetta, Tab Benoit, Crooked Still, Solas, Tom Russell. A resolution for the year that I seem to have unconsciously made: stop the car, get out, take the picture. Since our theme here seems to be berries, your food pic of the week is a mini-trifle Melissa made. |
