Friends of Unity Wetlands hosted a pot luck and contra dance Friday night in the building we renovated downtown. It's such a warm and friendly space with a wooden floor, and since it's one of the oldest buildings in town, everyone has memories about it. The sleet and freezing rain kept the crowd down to locals; when I left, my car was completely iced over. Contra dancing is a pretty amazing way to interact with people. In the course of a dance you come face to face with everyone, form and re-form groups, touch everyone; this while moving through space trying to remember the steps. Between the speaker series on Tuesday nights, the film series on Thursday nights, and various community gatherings, this winter is just busy enough.

The web host I use doesn't have streaming, so I uploaded the contra dance video to Youtube and linked to it. Duh, why haven't I done that before. At work, I write web uploaders so I was curious to see theirs in action. Their first upload form attempts an AJAX monitor thing and if you have trouble with that, it brings you to a simpler form with a clear message that something is happening and please be patient. I wrote an excellent AJAX upload monitor that updates your progress every 10 seconds but it only works in Firefox so far.

The February Mix has a radio trilogy and two Brazilian songs that you should play loud in your car. Thanks to Darlene Olivo for the Zucchero and Raymond Myles songs. Some rain and temperature shifts made the ice do some weird buckling. Melissa took these pictures at sunset and the following morning.
