This is the season when it's possible to walk to places over the frozen lake.
Wednesday I walked down the lake to town, hopped up at the park and walked down the tracks to Crosstrax. Melissa met me there on her way back from a marketing course in Rockland, which is maybe why I had "branding" on my mind when I picked up this brochure. The first thing that caught my eye was the font, the dirty typewriter font; or is it really a dirty typewriter? Well at least they have a copy machine.
They define themselves as "a pressure group of armed, concerned, rural citizens." Except for the "armed" and secretive part, they touch on some values commonly held around here. And that no-website message on the back of the brochure is a final brilliant touch in that xfiles paranoia kind of way. So what do you think? A creepy militant group or someone's final project in a marketing class?
The Jazzfest Schedule came out this week and there's great stuff, one of the best lineups ever. I don't pay much attention to the big names; their job is to draw people away from the good stages in the middle. Some folks I am excited to get to see for the first time include Michael Franti, Ozomatli, and Cassandra Wilson.
