Maine Democrats had their caucus today. There were 45 people at the one in Unity. Melissa and I were there, she was on the Hillary side, I was on the Obama side. Overall in Maine more than twice as many people attended Democratic caucuses than ever before, more than twice the number in 2004. Unity's four delegates to the state convention were split with two for each candidate; overall Obama won 15 of the state's 24 delegates. The excitement and engagement of people in this year's election is wonderful to see. We are desperate to leave the Bush years in the past. I'll gladly support either candidate, but I'm hoping Obama wins out so that we don't have to deal with the drama of the Clintons, so that we can escape dynasties and make a new start.
After hearing her speak here recently, I read Here If You Need Me by Kate Braestrup,
Chaplain of the Maine Warden Service. It made me laugh and cry. Just this week, there was one plane crash, two snomobile fatalities, and one person lost in the woods. She must have had a busy week. I like the way she shows rural law enforcement as a caring profession, and it was interesting to read the insider view of the rescue operations that are needed here a lot.
Two views of rose hips. I'm finishing this up on Wednesday with the state pretty much shut down with snow and freezing rain.
