Yesterday we attended a memorial service for Alice Cheeseman, a friend and a major force in our community. The service was at the theater which is the closest thing we have to a church. By "we" I mean people who do not belong to a church. Weddings, funerals, movies and live music; what does your church do? A minister friend of Alice's officiated, kind of like a master of ceremonies; there was the occasional mention of god but no praying, thank god.
Alice was our local Democratic Party leader and caucus convener. She was in the hospital during this year's caucus, but sent in her absentee ballot for Obama. We will follow up on that for you, Alice.
Last night was our first spring flooding drill. We have no problem with flooding as long as the electricity is on to run the sump pump. In a big rain, a tree came down on the camp road and took the power line with it. We pulled the generator onto the porch, cranked it up and hooked up the sump pump. I'd give us high marks on the test. If March was a relationship it would be one where you're divorced but still living in the same house. We are so over winter.
