Friday, the first day of JazzFest, was mostly about shopping. It wasn't too crowded and we had good conversations with several crafters, including Peter Boutte from whom we bought a small painting. We visited Batik Man and got various fest apparel. Glad to see so many biking to Fest. We had some detective adventures (you find a phone on the ground; how do you find the owner?)with Jeanne and Luc, heard a few songs by Givers (like nothing else that ever came out of Lafayette), and then left early on a mission. We made a quick trip to Best Buy where friend Melanie bought an iPad, then home to iPad boot camp where we imported her yahoo contacts, set up her apple id and her email, showed her a couple of things and she was all set with it.
Just a week ago Melissa bought one and she's already bonded with it. My sister Claudia arrived at the beach with a new one as well and we're sending Ingrid out first thing in the morning to get one. This is not about technology; it's about communication and staying in touch easily.
Saturday was party day. First Mary Jo and Dawn's annual party in their unique house and walled garden, the perfect place for many conversations. Then home to Colleen's in Metairie where Melissa and David grilled and niece Melanie learned to make pesto. Katie and Drew, who are somehow no longer in college but have movie jobs and a great kid, joined us. They do location stuff (Katie) and prop stuff (Drew) and they cleared up the No Tomb Parking mystery. The Tomb is a movie being shot in New Orleans.
Earlier in the week we met Marie for lunch (House of Blues) and the ritual trip to Louisiana Music Factory. I bought a vinyl album by Why Are We Building Such a Big Ship because I noticed that David had acquired a turntable for digitizing LPs. I'll have to figure out how to work it.
Now it's beach time for a few days.
