The Bourg Five returned from Nova Scotia with a desire never to be in the car with each other for that long again. They skipped other day trips and just hung out by the lake for a couple of days. Swimming, kayaking, local shopping, eating lobster -- not a bad way to go.
Thursday was the 30 day info meeting where the town office committee reports what we are doing. We showed the three locations we are still considering and after polling preferences, we are probably down to two locations. Tony was brave to present the fire station add-on option, but it got no votes in the poll. The MFT lot next to the community center is the best and almost certainly the least expensive place to put it. We will add a handsome building right in the village. The McAlpine lot out by the fire station is just too isolated as evidenced by the fact that the town clerk would only work evenings there if there was a meeting going on at the fire station. I am glad that more people got to see what it's like having Ron in a meeting; it is sad and difficult. At meetings like these, there is always a core group of negative people who are negative about pretty much everything, but they don't usually win the day. Chairing the meeting, I try to call on everyone who wants to speak while limiting those who will say the same thing over and over again. It was just this week that we learned that we could get the MFT lot for half the assessed value and with permission to remove the old cape and that has changed everything. Now it's all about building design. I think we could be ready for a town meeting in 30 days. For some good light reading try perusing the Maine Statutes Revised and Annotated. I have said that most town government practices are set by tradition, but the statutes provide some rules to base things on.

Finally got to see Beasts of the Southern Wild; I think I saw some of my relatives in the credits. The singer in the funky bordello was named Bourg and it was filmed in Bourg and Montegut, Lousisiana. Very improvisational film making; when the director encounterd characters like the boat drivers, he just gave them parts in the movie, and there is no shortage of characters down there. He created a made up place from some real places with a lot of accessible material. Favorite scene? Hushpuppy finds mom.
