I like good food but fancy food is wasted on me. What I really like is scoring the best table, that is, the table with the best view, like this table at the Lobster Pound in Lincolnville or the table we had at Dennett's Wharf in Castine.
It was 90 degrees inland but sitting on the water we needed jackets. I had a phone meeting for work and did the call sitting on a shady bench in Camden near where the dactyllicly named Edna St.Vincent Millay looks out on the harbor. On the call I exercised the fairly recently discovered satisfaction of saying No. No, you can't have the code.
Yesterday, Melissa joined us for the Castine to Stonington adventure. Winding hilly roads with narrow bridges and a causeway across an inlet. As long as we're doing literary tours, Katharine Butler Hathaway (The Little Locksmith) and Robert Lowell, the poet, lived in Castine. Like very little fishing village at the end of a peninsula, Stonington is a misty harbor with great views of boats and gear. Meanwhile, I'm thinking about the special town meeting next Thursday when the committee will ask for a 120 day extension to work on finding a new town office. Thinking about how to minimize the chaos at the informational pre-meeting. Keep it simple and stick to an agenda. Maybe lose the powerpoint thing unless that's what it takes to keep us on agenda. |
